mlplaw has advised one of the UK’s leading sports retailers on a transition deal to make it an employee-owned business.
We worked alongside the company’s accountants and tax advisors to develop the deal, which sees the retailer become a 95% employee-owned entity using an employee-ownership trust (EOT) model.
The deal protects the future of the company and ensures that the ethos under which it was founded remains even after its original owners have transferred control.
The retailer’s Managing Director (and outgoing shareholder) said:
“After exploring several succession planning options, we found that the EOT model was the best way forward, offering attractive benefits for both the shareholders and employees. We are very grateful for the expertise and guidance provided by mlplaw, whose knowledge and experience provided us with clear advice and guidance throughout our EOT journey. We would highly recommend them.”
We offer our biggest congratulations to the business on this exciting new chapter!
