If you’ve been thinking about putting a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) in place but haven’t yet done so, now is the time to act. The government has announced that from 17 November 2025, the cost to register an LPA will increase from £82 to £92 per application.
That means registering both types of LPA (Property & Financial Affairs, and Health & Welfare) will cost £184 instead of £164 (an extra £20).
What Is an LPA and Why Do You Need One?
An LPA is a legal document that allows you to appoint people you trust to make decisions on your behalf if you are unable to do so in the future. There are two types:
- Property & Financial Affairs LPA – covers your money, property and financial decisions.
- Health & Welfare LPA – covers decisions about your health, care, and day-to-day life.
Having both in place gives you peace of mind that your wishes will be respected and your loved ones won’t face unnecessary stress or legal hurdles.
Why It’s Important to Act Now
- Save money – Registering now means you’ll pay the current £82 fee per LPA, rather than the higher £92 fee.
- Avoid delays – LPA applications can take time to prepare and register, so starting early is sensible.
- Protect your future – No one knows what lies ahead; getting your LPA in place now ensures you’re covered.
